Bill and Surgery

Bill needs to have the cyst on his vocal chord surgically removed. Rumor has it the surgery will take place on Monday, but we'll see.

Here's the translation of Bill's doctors notes that the UK fans stumbled across:

Mr. Bill Kaulitz, born 01.09.1989, is under my specialist care.

Based on a significant vocal problem, the European tour must be interrupted. Since then, the patient is being treated by me with maximum conservative therapy (medicinal, inhalation) and absolute vocal silence.

Within Mr. Kaulitz lies a clear organ thickening in front of the middle-third of the left vocal fold, which makes the closing of the vocal fold impossible and blocks the vibration. The song tones break away from the central position and the speaking voice is rough.

There is thickening on an intracordal vocal fold cyst with secondary epithelium thickening and rising.

The problem is such that the force of collision of the vocal folds with the vibrations is not distributed over a smooth vocal surface, but is concentrated in the zone of the thickening. Because of the concentration of force in this area, short-term straining of the voice would lead to further swelling of the tissue and epithelium, the closing of the vocal chords to deteriorate further and the hoarseness to increase.

Mr. Kaulitz is considering a phonosurgical operation in which the cyst will be sensitively removed and the edge of the vocal folds reconstructed in plastic. A post-operation period of vocal silence of 10 days and vocal rehabilitation of about 3 weeks is calculated.

From specialist perspective, a continuation of the tour is presently not recommended under any circumstances.

For queries at any time, I stand at your disposal.

Dr. Gerrit Wohlt
